Privacy policy
Last updated: July 2026
This policy explains how PhacoBook ("PhacoBook", "we") handles data. PhacoBook is documentation software for cataract surgeons. Our design principle is simple: clinicians own their data, and patient identity never enters the shared registry.
Patient data is pseudonymized
Patients are referenced by an identifier that you choose and control — not by name. Clinical data is captured against this pseudonym. Any mapping between your patient identifiers and real-world identities remains with you and is not required by, or shared with, PhacoBook to operate the service.
The shared registry is anonymous
Documented cases contribute structured clinical data to an anonymous, aggregated registry so surgeons can benchmark their outcomes against the wider community. The registry contains only anonymous clinical data points — never patient names or the identifiers you use to recognize your patients.
Your account data
To provide the service we process the account information you give us (such as your email address) and the clinical data you enter. We use this to operate PhacoBook, keep you signed in, and show you your own metrics.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use advertising cookies or advertising trackers.
- We use essential storage (a session token and your preferences) to keep the app working.
Cookies & local storage
PhacoBook uses your browser's local storage for essential functionality — keeping you signed in and remembering preferences such as language and theme. This essential storage is required for the app to work. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your rights over your data
Your record is yours. You can export your full data at any time and request deletion of your account. Depending on your jurisdiction you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, and portability); we support these through the app.
Data retention & security
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it. When you delete your account, your personal account data is removed; anonymous, aggregated registry statistics that cannot be traced back to you or your patients may be retained.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
